Our team would like to share a great news with our visitors:

Starting on Sunday, August 17th, Verizon is offering a very hot deal that will shake the whole High Speed Internet market!

New subcribers to the Verizon DSL Service will get the High Speed service absolutely FREE for the first 6 months!

There has been previous deals that offered only the first month free, or cash-backs, but by catching this deal there won't be any costs to the customer for a good half of the year.

Are there any other costs?

No. The DSL service works through the same line that the phone is attached to. For the DSL service, a DSL modem is required to get connected, just like a cable modem is required for the cable internet. Verizon is also providing this modem for FREE, so that there are no startup costs for the customer. Not only that, but also shipping and handling (S&H) is FREE for those who subscribe.

Summary:

  • FREE Verizon DSL Service for the first 6 months.
  • FREE Modem.
  • FREE Shipping and Handling.

Please click Verizon High Speed Internet for the official Verizon offer page where you can subscribe to the service.

Tip: Just enter your Verizon phone number OR if you don't have one, click the "Check your Address" link on the page as seen on the snapshot below.

Thanks Verizon!

High Speed Internet Review and Comparison

Monday, 11 August 2008 12:33 by admin

High Speed Internet (HSI) Service is one of the most important essentials both for our home and business needs. I am wondering if there is anyone left in US who has not watched videos on YouTube, or who has not sent emails yet.

When it comes to ordering High Speed Internet service, we see that there is a big competition going on among the service providers. So let's check some of the service providers: The comparison chart here is a recent comparison of the prices, downstream and upstream speeds and the underlying technology. Of course, there are special deals which can strongly effect our decision before ordering so bear with the details too.

If you are not here to order a new service, chances are that you want to upgrade (or maybe downgrade) your internet service. So before your new order it is a good idea to check your current internet speed using Speedtest.net. (It is free.)

Choosing among the number of different providers is sometimes not an easy task. First thing to clarify is the main purpose of the internet service for use. If the main use of your internet needs is simple things like checking your emails and reading the news online; then a DSL service with 768 Kbps download speed is good enough. If your requirements are more demanding like downloading and watching online videos from AOL, YouTube etc.; then you have to choose at least a 3.0 Mbps (equals 3000 Kbps) and considerably a 5.0 Mbps service like Verizon High Speed Internet   - Power Plan or Verizon FiOS Internet Service.  or AT&T Yahoo! High Speed Internet - Pro. A popular experience nowadays is uploading videos on YouTube and sharing them on the internet. Please notice here that, uploading videos is in the list of the most demanding use of internet. Let's go through a familiar scenario of video upload process: First, the video is captured by a camcorder. (Video source might be a DVD-Recorder, or HDD Camcorder having Hard-disk or a MiniDV, not mentioning details of these and not to mention the High Definition Camcorders getting popular day by day...) Usually, the size of these video files on the computer is gigantic, measured in terms of Giga-Bytes. Let's assume that, by means of cropping - editing - downsizing the video, you were able to reduce the file size to a hundred Mega-Bytes.

A simple calculation of the time required to upload this 100 Mega-Byte file would be: 100 MB = 100*8 M-bit = 800 Mb.

For a Verizon High Speed Internet   - Power Plan having 768 Kbps upload speed, total time = 800Mb/768Kbps = approx. 17 minutes.

For a AT&T Yahoo Basic Plan having typical 384 Kbps upload speed, total time = 800Mb/384Kbps = approx 35 minutes.

Let's do the final calculation for Verizon FiOS Internet Service. having a minimum upload speed of 2.0 Mbps with the cheapest plan. Total time = 800 Mb/2Mbps = 400 seconds, which is approx. 7 minutes only! Doesn't this illustrate the power of a true fiber-optic service?!

I hope this comparison gives an idea in comparing the upload or upstream speeds for the services. Please also keep in mind that, the server's speed is equivalently important as yours.

Finally, I would like to mention HughesNet Satellite High Speed Internet - Home . This service neither uses your cable substructure nor copper wires nor the Fiber substructure. This Satellite Internet uploads and downloads directly from the satellite link using a dish antenna mounted to your house's roof or another suitable place outside of your home. Though a simple comparison of this service with the others yields to a conclusion that its price is high and its speeds are low; having a satellite internet service may be favorable in situations where other options are not available.

This article has provided a comparison of the most popular High Speed Internet Services in US. Please note that, this article was meant for only HSI service. So when you are deciding, make sure you are checking out some bundled services (like HSI, TV and digital phone all together) to cut a better deal overall.
